Character history
Personality:
When Pidge is pitted against the world, she often acts like it's the world that has something to lose. Driven and intelligent, Pidge is an extremely focused person when she has a goal. Unfortunately she tends to be hyper-focused when it's something she truly cares about and it can take a lot to shake her from that. Ask her what's more important, say, finding her missing family or destroying the alien race that's taking over the galaxy, and the answer may surprise you. It's not that she's selfish or naïve about the importance of the missions she gets, it's just difficult to shake her from what she's set her mind to. Like a tiny bull, she charges at life with her horns down and has to be reminded to look up from time to time.
Yes, this absolutely makes her come off as moody and temperamental, and she frequently needs time to herself to work or reflect or plan. She can be very quiet unless she has something to say, but patience with her teammates antics comes and goes, especially when they're at her expense and she can't join in the fun. She can be quite the little snarker when she wants to be, and isn't above visiting little physical harm on the especially annoying among them.Mostly Lance. Exclusively Lance.
Pidge is the kind of person who's more comfortable with machines than humans, but when she's comfortable and happy she's also excitable, curious and full of wonder. Her father told her that his teammates were as close as family, and she's tried her best to take that to heart. Even if it does take awhile. Because she's stubborn. But when the chips are down and her team is in danger -or even when food is being thrown- she's always all in and she can hold her own no problem.
She's hardly a delicate flower, despite her tiny size, but she's also prone to nervousness and anxiety especially when faced with an uncertain situation she can't hack or fight. She's prone to rambling and doomsday scenarios when the pressure's not on, and impulsive behavior when it is. Can't read the symbols on a piece of tech in order to safely shut it down? Jamming her Bayard in the mechanisms should do the trick. Your drill sergeant is badmouthing your family? Yell at him, no matter how likely it is you'll get disciplined and/or expelled. Get a minor lead on her family's location? Go. Go now. Forget your mission, modify a pod and leave to go look for them. Never mind your mission, your family is your first priority no matter what.
In that way, Pidge isn't really a leader, but she is an asset to any team she's on as long as she can be convinced to stay and as long as her team doesn't mind when she bends the rules or mouths off. Just remind her once or twice that she can save what's important to her and the world at the same time.
Canon Powers: No powers at her canon point.
Game powers: 2 powers:
1. Minor cloaking powers. Pidge can bend light around her body to create a chameleon effect for a maximum of two minutes.
2. Cone of silence. Pidge can muffle the noises she makes (footsteps, talking, breathing) for a maximum of two minutes. HOWEVER, she can't use both powers at the same time and maintain for that long. Using both at the same time cuts the time she can use them to around 30-45 seconds.
Abilities: Given enough time, Pidge can hack just about any computer system she comes across, though a system with a lot of defenses will take longer and she can be stymied by unfamiliar languages. She's also a skilled but somewhat untrained hand-to-hand fighter, especially with her Bayard (magical electric shock dagger/grappling hook).
Setting: Pidge had some trouble accepting her mission with the Voltron Force while knowing that her family were captives of the most ruthless alien race known to existence, and her team is still figuring out the whole “piloting the greatest weapon in the universe together” thing. So she will really not be happy starting at square one with a whole new team and semi-new abilities. She'll be fine with aliens (if a little jumpy) and super intrigued with all the awesome technology she has access to, but she'll be metaphorically kicking the back of her seat in irritation for a few weeks to a month before really accepting her new mission and teammates.

Prose Sample:
Pidge wasn't one for parties, especially parties where she couldn't steal a plate of hors d'oeuvres and press herself against a corner with something to program. She wasn't helping anyone or fighting anyone, so she probably wasn't needed here for anything except to look pretty for the Legion. She'd almost finished planning her escape route when she caught someone's eye across the room.
He looked like he had something to say, but he didn't make any move to include her. Just...turned back to his cohorts, nodding towards her and...
He said the word “short.” Because of course he did. She bit a Vienna sausage off a toothpick (appetizers she recognized, it's been way too long). She could just walk away. Ignore it. Leave it alone, not let it get under her skin.
...Yeah, she's on her way over. She doesn't care how true it is, only her friends get to call her short. And even then, it's really only Hunk that gets to call her short. Sometimes.
Pushing her way through the crowd isn't hard, even though she's not eye-level with anyone here. It's not all that dissimilar from being a Paladin, except she doesn't have to work as hard for the same amount of respect. Voltron is too new (well, OK it's old, she and her crew are the ones too new to Voltron) to be as well known as the Legion. In a way, it's kind what she wants for her crew back home.
The guy in the fancy suit keeps talking, and as Pidge gets closer, his words become more and more clear. A lot of words to express that they'll let anyone into the Legion these days. A few members of the group part the circle, and Pidge steps in, still chewing on the toothpick. She can almost hear Lance's dumb comment about being a cowboy but it's not really about that. She's really just trying to ensure she never has to come to one of these again.
“You know, that sounds a lot like you think you could be one of us,” she said, looking askance at the loudmouth, “I could show you to the recruitment office if you want.” And the look on his face told her two things: He wasn't going to talk anymore, and he was so going to report her. Perfect.

[The video opens with Pidge adjusting the camera and looking slightly disappointed that it is, in fact, a normal not-very-futuristic camera and thus can't really distract herself from what she's been asked to do. She sits down and takes a deep breath.]
OK...This is a message to...Me. My future self. Whenever I want to look at this again, I guess? They didn't really give me a timeline for this, but maybe they just don't want to get my hopes up about going home anytime soon. Or maybe the Time Trapper plans to keep us here after we finish our mission and never let us go home and they're just trying to cover that up! Don't forget to look into that, I mean, it's probably not true because it'd be a bad idea to kidnap people and give them powers to use against you, but still you can't really rule it out.
[Her eyes have gone wide into the camera, and she's rambling away with no pause for breath, in that way that's going to totally embarrass her when she looks at this again.]
If they give you your lion than that'll prove they want you to stick around, though, honestly, they should have given it to us in the first place because honestly, why wouldn't you want a giant lion ship fighting on your side, but then you might as well wonder why they didn't bring the rest of Voltron too and- OH! If they do give you your lion do NOT let anyone else touch it. There's a lot of people here who love tech as much as you do and they WILL try to mod it and you're really the only one who should be touching it because they might screw up the connectors for the arm and, well...
[She suddenly stops, not even looking at the camera anymore. Lumps in the throat are hard to talk around.]
Don't forget your mission back home. Keep an eye out for anything you can use in the fight against Zarkon. And no matter how lonely it gets without Shiro, Hunk and... Lance, Keith, Allura and Coran, remember...they're counting on you here too.
[What else could she need? She turns off the camera.]
Additional info: She'll scale at least one building with her Bayard's grappling hook, ala Batman. That's going to happen.
